About Kanazawa Day, PLLC

Kanazawa Day, PLLC was started with one purpose and one purpose only: to help families and students navigate the complex world of Education Law. This way, we can dedicate all our firm's attention and resources to the families and children we represent.

Mr. Kanazawa and Ms. Day met while working for the largest school district in the Country. Mr. Kanazawa handled hundreds of Special Education litigation and Federal Appeals cases, while Ms. Day handled hundreds of Special Education settlements and claims for the District. Having been attorneys for over 45 combined years, Mr. Kanazawa and Ms. Day both realized the genuine need for accomplished attorneys to advocate on behalf of children to attain the educational benefits to which they are entitled by Federal and New York State Law.

Mr. Kanazawa

Mr. Kanazawa’s legal career spans over 15 years and has consisted of varied positions. He has served as the General Counsel for two multi-state corporations and has practiced independently working directly with clients on complex litigation, risk management, and healthcare regulation and compliance. In addition, Mr. Kanazawa was an Adjunct Professor of Law in an internationally renowned law program where he taught Advanced Litigation Practice and has served as a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) lecturer for admitted attorneys.

Throughout his career, education has played a very significant role. Mr. Kanazawa was born in a small, rural town in South Georgia. He is the first in his family ever to attend college or to receive advanced degrees. Mr. Kanazawa firmly believes that access to education is paramount to success in life and that everyone is entitled to advance their education. He later returned to school to pursue a Master of Public Health degree and worked as a Senior Research Scientist on programs to provide equitable treatment for underrepresented minority groups.

Mr. Kanazawa is a seasoned attorney that has successfully tried cases in both State and Federal Courts, in front of Administrative Law Judges, and before Impartial Hearing Officers.

Mr. Kanazawa holds a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws from Franklin Pierce University, as well as a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is admitted to the state bars of New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New York, is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Districts of New Hampshire and New Jersey, and is one of a small number of attorneys licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

When not practicing law, Mr. Kanazawa enjoys cycling, swimming, playing the piano, and working with non-profits to benefit often marginalized members of society.

Ms. Day

Ms. Day has devoted her career to protecting children and vulnerable members of our community.  Ms. Day has worked as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting cases involving domestic violence, sex crimes, and crimes against children.  She worked tirelessly to advocate for victims that could not advocate for themselves. Ms. Day was also an Assistant Special Prosecutor for the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs where she handled criminal cases for vulnerable victims at the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), State Education Department, Department of Health, and Office of Child and Family Services.

Ms. Day was also a Deputy County Attorney where she represented Child Protective Workers. While working there she handled emotionally sensitive cases where children were neglected and abused.  In addition, she conducted hearings to retain child abuse indications to ensure individuals stayed on the New York State Child Abuse Registry.

Ms. Day is a seasoned trial attorney with over 20 years experience having tried cases in Supreme Court, County Court, and Family Court in New York.  She has also tried cases in front of Administrative Law Judges and Impartial Hearing Officers. Ms. Day is a skilled advocate who has been trained to forensically interview children and individuals with disabilities.

Ms. Day has a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University, her Juris Doctor from University of Arkansas, and her Masters in Education from University at Buffalo. In addition, while in law school her trial team won the regional team defeating 21 other law schools and advancing to the National Competition. Ms. Day is admitted to practice in New York.

Ms. Day is a native Buffalonian having graduated from City Honors.  She lives with her three children and Daisy, her little red Cavapoo dog.
